Fraudsters Imitating Private Investigators

A.I.C Legal Services Ltd have been of this opinion for a long time and feel it is totally unfair and probably unlawful for anyone to be allowed to call themselves a Private Investigator when they are not.
Unfortunately due to the endless delays the SIA appear to be unable to come up with a course that is relevant to our industry. Currently anyone can place an advert in the yellow pages or set up their own Web site and call themselves a Private Investigator with no Surveillance or Investigative teqniques. We call these business traders ‘Fraudsters’. In the Midlands we know of scores of Detectives trading with criminal records. In Nottingham we know of one Investigator who has been convicted of a racial assult and is a habitual user of drugs. Another fraudster who was spoken to by the Police regarding a sexual offence and would certainly fail a basic CRB check. We know of a Fireman who is a Private Investigator in his spare time and never had any surveillance training or Investigation training and learns as he goes along by unrepairable mistakes. This is only a few examples and very scary but also very true. This is a true profession and is a full time occupation for professionals and past experiences should not be relied on in an ever changing occupation. If you want to come into this industry with no experience then there should be a recruitment procedure, with a probationary period similar to that of the Police and Fire Service
Imaging hiring a Private Investigator who has never had Surveillance or Investigation training to follow an Unfaithful Partner, or an employee etc? In our opinion this is criminal as mistakes and blunders can destroy peoples lives and can have employers getting sued for thousands of pounds. Imaging paying an untrained fraudster thousands of pounds to do work for you only to find that he has a criminal record and can not support it in Court!
You the ‘CLIENT’ have the right to ask Private Investigators what their background is and ask for evidence to support this.
